Today we’ll discuss new finishes that have surfaced just recently for the purpose of developing innovation in silk-screen applications as, although still being used today, the current process is beginning to look old. One example would be pressed or vitreous silk-screen that differs from normal silk-screen in that it allows for the printing of more than four colors with a perfect register, something that would be impossible with traditional silk-screening. On a par with hot stamping and vitreous silk-screen we now have the appearance of thermal shrink labels (sleeves) within the beverage industry that also opens a new era for cosmetics, as using this material permits more exploitation of colors and even the use of photographic quality images both for fragrances and jars. Currently we live in an era where gluing is a novelty. The tendency comes mainly from gluing two containers together or with other materials such as aluminum plates or even precious stones; all for the purpose of combining other materials to enhance the containers attractive image. Industry continues its search to automate the process, as a means to lower costs that allows for satisfying the creative and operational needs of the cosmetic industry. Other materials are also emerging such as laser finishing that allows for burning off applied paint on the glass surface and creating elegant figures. Satin finishing has taken a new twist with partial satin finishes becoming available where a mask is applied so that the applied acid does not affect the masked area. This allows for interesting and creative designs. Silk-screening is also experiencing strong innovations, mainly for cylindrical containers, where we can obtain a 360° image giving us an esthetic innovation. Industry is demanding constant innovation and we need be up to date on all new trends, especially in the cosmetic industry.
