Orora Limited is pleased to announce its intention to build a glass beneficiation plant at its Gawler site in South Australia, assisted by an $8 million grant from the Commonwealth and South Australian Governments through the Recycling Modernisation Fund.
Orora Managing Director and CEO, Brian Lowe said “Commissioning of the beneficiation plant at Gawler, scheduled for 2022, aligns with Orora’s ambition to be a leading sustainable packaging solutions provider and supports Government aims to build Australia’s capacity to generate high value recycled commodities, invest in recycling and waste infrastructure, and create new opportunities to recover and reuse resources.
“The beneficiation plant will enable Orora to source more used beverage glass through established sources and new container deposit schemes to increase the amount of recycled content in glass packaging manufactured at Gawler. Utilisation of more recycled glass during packaging production will deliver sustainability benefits, including a reduction in the amount of energy (and Co2 emissions) and in virgin materials deployed to manufacture glass, and will divert waste away from landfill.
“The combined Commonwealth and South Australian grant funding is testament to Orora’s continued investment in sustainable solutions to support the growing needs of its customers and the Australian community.”
