In the Czech Republic, Rigips has installed a railway in its plant to transport gypsum more sustainably. An initiative that decarbonizes the transport of raw materials and works to fight global warming.
The Rigips plant in the Czech Republic welcomed an unusual project in 2021 and 2022: a railway to transport gypsum.
The system has been in operation since August 2022, and each wagon is made up of 6 lightweight containers, which can be handled using a giant forklift truck. The reduced weight of the containers maximizes the loading of rail transport and unloading is quick and adaptable. A 20-ton container can be lifted off the rails, transported to the depot and discharged by the forklift truck.
This railway enables the brand to reduce its carbon footprint associated with road transport. A train with an electric locomotive can take up to 1,440 tons of gypsum, the equivalent of 58 truckloads, which reduces CO2 emissions by 300 tons per year.
An increasingly profitable initiative in that our electricity comes from renewable sources.
